VA Pension

Question:

I have been getting VA pension for 18 years. Now I’m 65. Can I draw social security benefits without the VA subtracting that amount from my pension? I was told that would happen.

Jim's Reply:

Veterans pension benefits, as opposed to veterans disability benefits, are means based.

In other words, any income you receive beyond the VA pension will have the effect of reducing the pension by that amount. https://www.ssa.gov/people/veterans/
