Prostate cancer surgery by private practitioner

Question:

I was diagnosed with Prostate cancer in April 2003 and had radical prostate surgery in June 2003. This was done by private practitioner.  I filed for VA disability compensation Dec 2018. Will the VA deny my claim because it was not performed by VA doctor or my claim is too old ?

Jim's Reply:

Your claim will have an "effective date" of the date that you filed the claim. VA won't care if you were treated outside the VA and once they verify your records, your claim should be processed without any problem. No, you can file a claim at any time for any reason. There's no time limit for filing most claims.
